“Birding After Covid” Jonathan Dean
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought to light some acute disagreements about birding habits and behaviour. Recent high profile cases of twitchers stretching – and in some cases breaking – lockdown rules have proved particularly contentious. Responding to these debates, Jonathan Dean, well-known to many Fife birders, offers a personal account of changes in British birding culture over the past thirty years. It traces changing ideas of what birding entails, and asks if and how the birding community should alter some of its habits and assumptions in response to the pandemic and the looming threat of climate catastrophe.
