The first outing of 2018/2019 will be to sites known to produce various wader sightings at this time of year. Likely locations will be The Wilderness and Letham Pools as well as the Eden Estuary. Water Rails and a variety of ducks are also possibilities. Meet at the Eden Centre car park at 09:00.

The next FBC outing will be to the Hirsel on Sunday 15th April. We will meet at the car park in the Hirsel at 09:30 (a modest charge is payable for car parking). Alan is well known for his contribution to the study of Merlins in the Lammermuirs and will entertain us with some musings and a look back at ‘purposeful’ birding from age 13 ¼ years to 67 ¾ and still going!

“Brasil: The Pantanal and Interior” Alison Elphinstone
The title may conjure up pictures of lush greenery and widespread water. However, Alison’s trip was at the time of lengthy drought. She will detail how her trip was not to be as expected.

The centre is on the south side of the basin on the A92 as you enter Montrose. The Tay reed beds have become well known to Fife birders for their Bearded Tit population and Les Hatton will educate us on this species and many other aspects of this fascinating site.
